In collaboration with Philip Abram Architects and Duet Interiors, Cumberland has crafted "Checkmate," a family beach house that sets a new standard in design sophistication. This two-storey, five-bedroom residence redefines coastal living with its meticulous attention to detail and unparalleled craftsmanship.

Checkmate’s bespoke interiors showcase a timeless coastal aesthetic, highlighted by a soothing monochrome palette and elegant European Oak chevron flooring. Marble finishes, combined with a state-of-the-art home automation system, underscore the home's luxurious nature. High-end lighting from Apparatus and Kelly Wearstler adds a distinctive touch to the extensive joinery and thoughtful design elements.

The project faced significant access restrictions, particularly with the inclusion of a heated swimming pool and extensive landscaping in the rear yard. These challenges were adeptly managed through careful coordination and negotiation with neighbors, ensuring seamless construction and integration.

Designed to embrace natural light and airflow, Checkmate achieves a remarkable luminosity through a sophisticated layering of textures. The selection of stone, brass, and timber finishes not only enhances the home’s aesthetic appeal but also ensures durability and longevity.
